<p>1494349 Alkylthiosubstituted phenols GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 16 Dec 1974 [25 Jan 1974] 54167/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] A mixture of 4-(tert.-butylthio)phenol, 2- tert.-butyl-4-(tert.-butylthio)phenol and 2,6- di-tert.-butyl-4-(tert.-butylthio)phenol is prepared by reacting 4-mercaptophenol with isobutylene in the presence of toluene sulphonic acid and toluene followed by neutralization and stripping (Ex. 2). In Example 4, 2-tert.- butyl - 4 - methyl - 6 - (tert. - hexylthio)phenol was similarly prepared by reacting 2-tert.- butyl - 4 - methyl - 6 - mercaptophenol with 2-methyl-1-pentene and in Example 6, isobutylene was used in a similar way to effect further alkylation of 4-(n-butylthio)phenol, 4-(1-methylpropythio)phenol and 4-(tert.-butylthio)phenol in separate reactions.</p> |
