The method involves categorizing a user with respect to an orientation type, and determining notation of a geographical map depending on the orientation category of the user. Landmarks (7) are represented in the geographical map in geographical positions, and a number of represented landmarks depends on the orientation category of the user. The user of a type of orientation, which orients in the landmarks, is assigned to the orientation category. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for evaluating the route to a target in a vehicle navigation system (2) a device for controlling an indicator device in a vehicle.
