The method involves preventing the closing of the clutch after inserting in a driving position with detection of a drop in system pressure with open clutch. An already started closure of the clutch is discontinued on detection of the drop in the system pressure. The system pressure is measured and if the measured system pressure falls below a given threshold value, a system pressure breakdown is detected.
