1488273 Cartridge recorder BASF AG 20 Dec 1974 [22 Dec 1973] 55092/74 Heading G5R [Also in Division B8] A cartridge comprises a housing, a roll of tape 18 mounted on a hub 15 within the housing, the housing consisting of two parts which are pivotally connected together about a pivot 8 by a hinge 26 whereby when the two parts interengage to close the cassette the tape roll 18 is enclosed within the cassette and when the cassette is inserted in a trough 3 of a receiving means of a tape handling apparatus and the lid 1 of the means is closed to separate portions 3a and 3b of the trough 3 away from one another by pivoting them about a pivot 4 by means of pivotally mounted bars 5 the two parts of the cassette, which are engaged by shoulders 11 of the receiving means, are simultaneously swung apart to expose the roll of tape 18 which is then moved towards a capstan 39 of the apparatus by means of a movable shaft 40 upon which can be mounted the hub 15 to enable a peripheral surface of the roll of tape 18 to contact the capstan 39. The tape handling apparatus comprises at least one scanning means for scanning the tape. The shoulders 11 enter apertures on the cartridge to make the cartridge ready to be opened. Spring 27 having ends engaging recesses (28) of the cartridge, Fig. 3 (not shown), and edges 31 of a spring 29 engaging projections 30 in the cartridge maintain the cartridge closed. The projections 30 have steep sides enabling the edges 31 to contact different parts of these steep sides depending on the distance between the two edges 31 of the opening 32 of the spring 29 and on the distance between the two projections 30 when the cartridge is in the closed position. In order to hold the roll of tape 18 together springs 36 are provided and depending upon the diameter of the roll the springs 36 are accommodated between projections 37 which have distances from the roll centre conforming to such a radius of the tape roll. The roll is also provided with a toothed leader tape (20), Fig. 7 (not shown). The springs 36 hold the tape roll to allow the shaft 40 to enter the aperture of the hub 15 when the two parts of the cassette housing have been swung apart. The shaft 40 can enter the aperture through an aperture in the cartridge housing. |
