Sealing sleeve for engine valve push rod - has spring rings moulded into elastomeric body (SW 28.11.77)

The sealing sleeve (1) limits the oil flow along the surface of the engine valve push rod (4) to the minimum necessary for adequate lubrication of the guide bush (3). This is achieved by embodying the spring rings (2, 1) (2.2) into the elastomeric material by placing the rings in the mould before filling the mould with the elastomer. The spring rings (2, 1) (2.2) may be of metal or a resilient synthetic material. This method of manufacturing produces a seal which maintains a constant sealing pressure over a long period of time and so prevents any excess flow of oil past the sealing lip (1.1).
