The locknut has a conventional shaped body (10) and a lengthwise bore (12) runnin between its two end faces (18, 20). One or more slots extend between the end faces, and wedge pieces are inserted (40) in the slots so as to distort the lengthwise bore. The slots can run tangentially to the lengthwise bore but clear of it in the radial direction or alternatively they can be curved and concentric to the bore. The wedge pieces can be tapered screws engaging in threads formed in the slot walls. In the bore a circular groove can be formed, extending radially outwards through one at least of the slots walls. The lengthwise bore can be tapped, or incorporate a keyway.
|
