<p>A system for applying labels by means of adhesive onto a continuously travelling strip includes moistening a surface at intervals, then applying the adhesive coated labels to the surface at the wetted positions. This operation is perform by a known type of adhesive applicator machine which is modified to apply water instead of adhesive. This machine has a roller which is fed with liquid from a reservoir vessel and a label distributor or a system of cutting labels from a strip and applying the labels or pieces to a combining position. Instead of applicator members, the distributor is fitted with moisture pads which receive water from the vessel and apply it to the travelling strip. The labels are adhesive coated and applied to the areas wetted by the pads. The system is used for window envelopes.</p> |
