In a telephone installation an operator at a listening post can listen to conversations established between a number of employees and their contacts. A ring switch the operator can talk to the contact without the employees hearing and can disconnect the line. A number of pairs (2) of lines are connected to a telephone line (1) and each pair is connected via a counter (3) and switch (5) to subscriber telephones (4) for use by employees. The switches (5) enable the pair of lines to be connected via a circuit maker (6) and connector (7) on the panel (9) to a listening post (8). This enables an operator to interrupt and disconnects a telephone call.
