The pile driver has an oblong housing with a sealing plate at one end, to which there is secured a piston extending into the housing, and also means for securing it to a support when in use. Oblong hammer blocks are supported in the rest position by anvils, fixed to the housing at a distance in the lengthwise direction from the sealing plate, and form an internal chamber partly occupied by the piston. This divided the chamber into load and firing sections, alternately receiving a working medium placed under pressure by the piston so as to load the blocks and shoot them against the anvils.
