A transmission brake for agricultural and earth moving vehicles is fitted inside the epicyclic reduction gear box (6). The input shaft n1) is provided with splines (1'), to suit the sun wheel (13). The sun wheel (13 meshes with the planet wheels (14) which are mounted in a cage (15) formed integrally with the output shaft (9). The transmission brake consists of a number of discs (19) with splined bores which engage the teeth of the sun wheel (13). The hydraulic piston (16) presses the discs (19) and friction rings (17) together to apply the brake. The braking torque is resisted by the sun wheel (13) and is not transmitted to the input shaft (1).
