The combustion chamber is divided into two part chambers located below the inlet and exhaust valves. The two part chambers are joined together by a restricted section. The ignition electrodes are located in the inlet section. The fuel is injected (7) by a low pressure system shortly in front of the inlet valve. The hydrogen injection is timed to start in the second half of the induction stroke and to finish at the end of the induction stroke. The reason is to form a rich mixture at the inlet section close to the ignition electrodes, and a weaker mixture at the exhaust section (3). The fuel injection timing is engine load dependant, and is advanced with increasing load. The mixture preparation takes place during the compression stroke and is supported by a hot spot (8) formed by an exhaust gas bypass below the inlet section combustion chamber.
|
