The valve for rapid release of gas pressure in fire extinguishers has a valve member (13) urged against a seat (5) provided at the end of an inlet duct (3). The pressure in the duct tends to urge the member into the open position, but the member is held closed by a piston (21) in a cylinder (23) connected to the duct pressure. The cylinder is sealed by a frangible disc (25). A cutter (29) is operable to break the disc. The resulting sudden release of pressure in the cylinder allows the duct pressure to open the valve. The cutter may be connected for operation from a remote location.
