The thyristor switch consists of two antiparallel thyristors connected by their gates over two coupling diodes to the output of a triggering thyristor. The triggering thyristor is turned on by an electronic operating circuit. The voltage applied to the antiparallel thyristos by the triggering thyristors is determined by a zener diode in series with the coupling diodes. The switch provides greater decoupling between load and control circuits. The power loss in the 'on' condition is also reduced and the low voltage drop means smaller voltage sources can be used.
