New copolymers (I) consist of min. 65 (wt.)% acrylonitrile (II), 0.1-4% carboxylic acid amide N-methylol acyl ester of the formula CH2=CR-(CH2)n-CO-NH-CH2-O-COR' (where R is H or Me, n=0.5. R' is opt. branched 1-10C alkyl gp.), 0.1-8% acid amide N-methylol alkyl ether of CH2=CR-(CH2)n-CO -NH-CH2-OR', 1-20% acid amide of the formula CH2=CR-(CH2)n-CONH2 and opt. other comonomers. Used for the prodn. of filaments, fibres and films (claimed). (I) are cross-linkable and give fibres with excellent hot-wet properties. In an example, (I) was prepd. from 13650 g (II), 750 g acrylamide, 150 g methacrylamide N-methylol acetyl ester and 450 g N-methoxymethacrylamide.
