Deposition welding rod of stellite material - obtd. by continuous casting and used for welding of e.g. motor car exhaust valves

Deposition welding rod is claimed esp. for coating machine parts subjected to high temps. and/or abrasion, and/or corrosion, e.g. exhaust valves on internal combustion engines. The rod consists of a stellite material and is made by a conventional continuous casting process. The rod is pref. cast in lengths up to 3m, esp. 1-3m obtd. in one piece, i.e. without using welded joints. The rod is used without any machining of the surface and is pref. less than 15mm dia. with a tolerance on dia. over its entire length of less than plus-or-minus 0.03 mm. The non metallic inclusions in the rod are pref. max. 0.5% and the iron content in the rod is pref. max. 1%. The rod pref. consists of an outer directional structure with dia. (D) round a core with a less directional structure and dia. (d) where d:D=0.1-0.7. Apart from motor car exhaust valves, th rod can be used for coating guides for endless chains on motorised saws.
