The cosmetic skin-care, skin-protection or skin-cleansing composition contains, besides the usual ingredients, as humectant for the skin at least one N-hydroxyalkylalkanoamide of the formula <IMAGE> in which R1 is hydrogen or alkyl with 1-4 C atoms, R2 is hydroxyalkyl with 2-6 C atoms and 1-5 hydroxyl groups, and R3 is hydrogen, alkyl with 1-4 C atoms or hydroxyalkyl with 2-6 C atoms and 1-5 hydroxyl groups, in an amount of 1-20 % by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The said humectants maintain and restore in an excellent manner the water retention by the skin and thus keep the skin soft, flexible and fully capable of functioning. |
