Double acting piston IC engine - has single T-shaped piston with swing type valves to give cross flow

The engine has an air filter inlet at the top with passages running from this on both sides of the engine block. Air flow is controlled by the pressure across swing flap valves which are pivoted in these passages. The piston is on inverted T with the stem projecting upwards and combustion takes place at the ends of the crosspiece. As the piston moves away from the cylinder end the gases gain access to the large area offered by the stem of the T when the end of the crosspiece uncovers the step in the cylinder. The engine casing has ribs on the outside for air cooling and can also have channels for water cooling.
