The distributor for a heating or refrigerating system has a flow header (19) and a return header (12) adjacent and parallel to each other. They are closed at one end and have connections (20, 22) at the other to the boiler or refrigerator. Smaller pipes (50, 34) run from the flow header to individual radiators and return pipes (44, 56) run from the radiators back to the return header. Some of the flow pipes (34) run through the return header before reaching the flow header and some of the return pipes (44) run through the flow header before reaching the return header. This provides a mechanical connection (26, 40) between the two headers and enables the return water to be preheated or precooled before reaching the boiler or refrigerator.
