<p>The extra-safe clinical thermometer is designed to reduce the dangerous consequences of an escape of Mercury due to the fracture of the thermometer glass. The protection for the thermometer is provided by a plastic coating which totally encloses the thermometer's glass walls. The accu racy is not affected but the measurement time is slightly extended. This small disadvantage is offset by the increased safety of the instrument. The plastic coating is not uniform, but is thickened at strategic points requiring greater protection. Should the glass become fractured, the glass fragments and the Mercury filling are safely contained within the plastic envelope.</p> |
