<p>A vinyl aromatic cpd. is (co)polymerised, opt. in presence of a rubbery component, in presence of 0.001-0.5 (0.005-0.05) wt.%, w.r.t. monomer(s) of a cpd. (I) of formula H2C=C(R1)-CO-O-R-O-OC-C(R1)=CH2, R1 is H or (m)ethyl and R is -CnH2n-, in which n = 2-20, or -R2(O-R2-)m in which m=1-20 and R2 is 1-4C (un)branched alkylene. Polymers with the same index of viscosity may be obtd. at higher polymerisation temp. The monomer is esp. styrene and substd. styrenes. Claimed I are butane diol diacrylate and di(m)ethacrylate. In an example, polystyrene was obtd. at 0.154 kg/litre/hour in presence of butane diol diacrylate, and at 0.0812 in absence of the acrylate.</p> |
