<p>Prodn. of sound-absorbing floor covering materials involves applying a mixt. (I) of plasticised PVC and blowing agent to the back of a compact plasticised PVC sheet, opt. having a decorative coating on the front, and heating to convert (I) to a porous plastics material, pref. with simultaneous gelation. A plasticised PVC dispersion (II) of medium viscosity is applied to a temporary support and gell by heating, pref. to 110-160 degrees C, then coated with (I) based on (II) and heated to pref. 160-190 degrees C to effect foaming and gelation. The front of the material can have a transparent plasticised PVC film with a decorative print. The compact sheet is 0.1-2 mm thick, whilst the total thickness of the material is 1-6 mm. The material is highly sound absorbing, esp. for footfalls, and has good wear and load-bearing properties. It can be made easily and cheaply.</p> |
