<p>1493395 Arrangements allowing a member to pivot in a frame about two alternate axes J H BIERLICH 18 July 1975 [19 July 1974] 32165/74 Heading E2F A movable member (e.g. a sash 2) can pivot in a frame 1 about two axes at right angles by means of upper and lower hinges connecting the member to frame member 6 to allow the two forms of movement 7 showrt in Fig. 1, a bolt 48 which can disengage the upper hinge from the movable member and allow pivoting to the position 9 about a screw 32 which secures the lower hinge via a large diameter hole to the frame, and a stay 14 pivoted to the frame which is engaged by a pin 43 on the member 2 to limit the latter movement; an operating handle 4 moving a rod 37 on the movable member 2 into a first position in which rollers 40 on the rod engage plates 10, 11 on the frame to prevent opening of member 2, a second position in which rollers 40 are disengaged and the member can pivot about frame member 6, and a final position in which the upper hinge is released by the bolt 48 (which is connected to rod 37) and the pin 43 (mounted on rod 37) engages the stay 14. Any suitable linkage e.g. a flexible link joins the vertically sliding rod 37 to the horizontally sliding bolt 48-as shown the bolt 48 slides through a member 58 on the member 2 and can engage in a block 74 which carries one plate 64 of the upper hinge to link member 58 and block 74 together. Two link arms 66, 69 extend between plate 64 and a further plate 61 secured to the frame to allow a wide range of movement. The lower hinge is similar and the frame mounting plate of that hinge can tilt about securing screw 32. A further stay 15 is pivoted to the frame and has a keyhole slot engaged by a pin on the movable member. A curved plate 29 on the frame engages a curved lower end 49 of the rod 37 in the final position to aid pivoting. A locking arrangement ensures that bolt 48 can be moved only in the closed position of the movable member (Fig. 4 not shown).</p> |
