1468448 Anodizing continuous aluminium foil SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 13 Aug 1974 [13 Aug 1973] 35531/74 Heading C7B Continuous Al or Al alloy foil is anodized by passing it over an anode 42 into an electrolyte bath containing one or more cathodes 50-56, the foil being cooled by an air blast 46 between the anode and the point of bath entry. The cooling means may further include an internally cooled roller (100), Fig. 2 (not shown) which abuts an anode roller. The cathodes may be, in the increasing downstream direction, tilted towards the strip and/or successively nearer the strip and/or fed with successively increased voltage. Partitions 24-28 may divide the bath between the cathodes and a further partition may divide the first cathode from the point of entry. Horizontal foil movement through the bath and overflows 44 and 70 may be used, or the foil may pass vertically into and out of the bath and round deflection rollers therein. The foil may be attached to a plastics backing strip. Pre-treatments include degreasing and etching, and the anodized strip may be HNO 3 -treated, coloured, sealed and coated with a photo-resist. |
