<p>1493411 Moulding pullulan SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd and HAYASHIBARA BIOCHEMICAL LABORATORIES Inc 27 Jan 1975 [1 Feb 1974] 3516/75 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] In order to allow pullulan powder, flake or pellets to be processed in a moulding machine utilizing a screw i.e. extrusion, injection or blow moulding, 1-50% by weight of water is incorporated into the pullulan moulding material. The water may be incorporated by spraying or subjecting the pullulan to a high humidity atmosphere. The moulding temperature used is 40‹-150‹ C. and the molecular weight of the pullulan lies in the range 50,000-1,000,000. Glycerin, ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, sorbitol, propylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, moltitol, dimethyl sulphoxide, plasticized P.V.A. high M.W. amylose or gelatin may also be incorporated into the pullulan. Pigment, dye and/or filler may be incorporated. The pullulan used is a linear high polymer having repeating units, bonded throughα-1,6-linkages, of maltotriose.
