A voltage (Va) representing the actual heating energy is fed to a controller supplied with the required voltage (Va). To derive (Vr), a multiplier is fed with a voltage (Vb) proportional to the difference between the required temp. (tx2) for the wire leaving the plant, and the wire inlet temp. (t1); and the multiplier is also fed with a voltage (Vc) proportional to the vol. of wire passing through the plant perunit of time. Both t1 and the actual outlet temp. (t2) of the wire are measured and connected in a circuit including a proportional plus integral amplifier which feeds a summing network leading to the multiplier. An alternative circuit using a microcomputer is included, and this circuit employs an analogue memory store, multiplexer, and an analogue/digital converter. Despite variations in t1 or the wire speed (Ws), the correct amt. of energy is supplied to achieve (tx2), and the energy can be adjusted to suit the wire dia. (Wd).
|
