<p>1493705 Acetoxylation MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Feb 1975 [5 Feb 1974] 4661/75 Heading C2C In an acetoxylation process, e.g. for the preparation of diacetoxybutene, comprising reacting butadiene, acetic acid and an oxygencontaining gas in the presence of a palladium catalyst, at least part of the gas from the acetoxylation and purification system which contains butadiene is passed to a butadiene absorber to absorb butadiene in acetic acid, which is then recycled, and then in a second stage the acetic acid containing gas is contacted with water to remove acetic acid. The diacetoxybutane thus prepared may be hydrolysed after optional hydrogenation to produce butene and/or butanediol. Examples describe closed systems for the acetoxylation of butadiene with a palladium-selenium catalyst supported on active carbon using a packed butadiene adsorber and an acetic acid adsorber (Fig. 1). A flow diagram of the process including the hydrogenation and hydrolysis stages, the recycling of the butadiene and the use of recovered acetic acid for the hydrolysis, is given.</p> |
