The rotary i.c. engine has four rotors mounted on parallel shafts (b) which run in bearings (c) mounted in end plates (D). The rotors are of elliptical cross-section and enclose a central volume. The shaft (b) of each rotor is provided with a pin-ion which engages a common gear wheel on the output shaft so that the four rotors rotate at the same speed and in the same direction. As the rotors rotate the central vol. alternately increases and decreases in size so that air supplied through the inlet valve (G) can be drawn in, compressed expanded and exhausted to achieve a four-stroke cycle.
|
