Lance for injecting fluidised material into molten metal - using steel tube surrounded by wire grid anchoring refractory sheath

Lance for injecting fluidised prods. into a bath of molten metal, consists of a steel tube coated by a refractory contg. an envelope of wires which increase the adheres of the refractory. The wires form an interconnected grid making a bandage round the steel tube. The bandage is covered by ca. 10 mm of refractory concrete contg. a high proportion of clay. The wire bandage is pref. closed by insertion of a weft, i.e. cross-wires. The lance is pref. used for injecting fluidised materials which only evolve a little gas when in contact with the molten metal where the refractory pref. extends to the working end of the lance whereas the bandage stops 10 mm from the end. Used e.g. for injecting fluidised materials into molten iron, the lance possessing a long working life.
