The front-hinging pivoting chair seat (5) is designed to assist the aged or infirm in raising themselves to the standing position when leaving the seat, and is partic. suitable for application on w.c. seats. The seat (1) includes levers (M) which are used by the occupant to incline the seat, and upward seat inclination is assisted by built-in counter-springing (R). When the seat (S) is unoccupied it may have a light forward inclination (S1) under the effect of the springs (R). The springs (R) are compressed under the weight of an occupant and the seat may adopt a horizontal position (S2). The hand levers (M) pass through the seat (S) hinge (2) and, thus, with the seat (S) form an 'L' shaped member in side elevation. The seat may be built onto a chair structure (1) or be a portable unit.
