The anchor bolt (10) is intended for attaching objects to concrete walls or floors. The bolt has a hexagonal head (16) with an integral washer (18). The diameter of th threaded end is less than that of the plain portion o the shank with a conical transition surface (11) between the two diameters. A split sleeve (20) with longitudinal slots (28) fits over the threaded portion of the bolt. A special nut (30) with a conical outer surface is screwed onto the bolt before it is pushed into the hole (B) in the concrete (M). As the bolt is tightened the sleeve (20) is pushed against the conical surface (11) which expands the upper end of the sleeve. At the same time the nut (30) expands the lower end of the sleeve to exert a firm grip in the hole (B).
