<p>A boiling liquid rheostat applicable to the periodic testing of standby electrical AC generators, comprises a housing contg. an aq. electrolyte in which electrodes sepd. by conducting partitions forming the neutral point, are immersed. The housing has a large outlet for the steam produced and the level of water is kept at the height corresp. to the power desired, by a pump drawing water from a reservoir. The total vol. of the electrolyte is kept constant by a system of floats controlling a fresh water inlet valve. The concns. of the electrolyte in the housing and in the reservoir are kept constant by a continuous return flow into the reservoir; the total feed of the pump being equal to the amount of fluid draining back plus the amount of the water vapourised.</p> |
