The machine is portable and used for splitting billets of wood. It is operated from the hydraulic system of a tractor or by a suitable hand operated pump. A fabricated and welded frame (5) has the parallel sides provided with guide plates. At one end is a stop plate (4) for locating one end of the billet. At the other end is a trunnion mounting (3) for a hydraulic cylinder (2). This cylinder has a vee shaped head (1) fitted to its piston rod. This head is guided in the frame and is impressed into the other end of the billet.
