Sugar extraction from molasses by reaction with quick lime - with direct cooling by addition of ice crystals

Sugar is extracted from molasses by diluting the latter, treating it with quick lime, filtering and further processing the resulting saccharate milk. The process is improved by adding to the reactor ice crystals (pref. suspended in water) in such amts. that the optimal temp. is maintained to stabilise the saccharate. The direct cooling with ice is more convenient than the indirect cooling applied in the conventional processes. The appts. is simplified and the operating cost is reduced.
