The compact layout zoom lens has a front group of elements (L1, L2, L3) in a diverging setting and a rear group (L4 to L8) with a converging setting. The separate elements are thin to provide a compact layout with a min. of aberration. Both colour and geometric aberration are minimised. The three diverging elements are arranged in a separated setting with two negative and one positive elements. The converging group is selected to give a field of view of at least 62 deg. at short focal lengths.
