The bark stripping machine has blades on a carrier, movable along the tree trunk. They can swivel about a transverse axis and be pressed resiliently against the trunk as it is moved through. The blade carrier is a stripper chain, with the blades attached to its links. It runs between two suspension mountings, and one of these, at least, can move in a line with radial components relative to the trunk, and is resiliently pressed outwards away from the trunk. The blades may be seated on leaf springs (9) attached to the chain links. This readily permits adaptation to widely varying trunk diameters.
