The test strip is made from a magnetically conducting material, the magnetic properties of which are used to judge the authenticity of the notes. In testing the notes, the test strip is placed in an alternating magnetic field strong enough to saturate the magnetic material of the strip. The strip material is one which produces several harmonics, >=1 of which is checked.
