The knock-down chest and shelf furniture, comprises upright supports and top and bottom bases which are detachably connected together by connecting elements in the form of cylindrical pegs which have the same dia. over their entire effective length and which pass through bores in the top and bottom bases to sink into vertical bores in the supports or side panels. The pegs lie in friction engagement in the vertical bores and the pegs of the uppermost and/or lowest base each have thickened head which engages over the edge of the adjoining bore so that, when assembled, the pegs and connecting means are concealed.
