1492484 Resin impregnated cellulose acetate fibre articles DAICEL Ltd 23 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 2937/75 Heading B5A [Also in Division D1] A process for manufacturing a non-woven cellulose acetate fibre article comprises forming a shaped article from a non-woven fibrous web at least 50% by weight of the fibres of which are cellulose acetate fibres, impregnating or coating the fibres before, during or after forming the web or article with 5-40% by weight (of the final article) of a phenol-aldehyde condensation product and setting the shaped article by permeating superheated steam through the web until the condensate is cured. The web may be moulded in an iron mould or by passage between wire nets. The condensate may be in liquid or powder form and may comprise a novolak or resol condensate, e.g. phenol or cresol-formaldehyde. Up to 50% of the fibres may be formed from P.V.C., polyethylene glycol terephthalate, or polyacrylonitrile fibres or mixtures thereof. The condensate may include a plasticizer such as phthalic acid ester or a phosphoric ester. The web may be formed by mixing the fibres and condensate in an air stream and accumulating the coated fibres. |
