1492934 Packaging apparatus BRITISH STEEL CORP 14 Nov 1974 [15 Nov 1973] 52989/73 Heading B8C Coils of steel strip 3 are circumferentially wrapped in a web 2 of a stiff material such as sheet metal, the web being driven by rollers 6, 7 to pass between meshing rollers 11, which corrugate the longitudinal edges of the web, and then to pass round the coil 3 rotating on support rollers 4, 5. The corrugated edges 17 of web 2 axially overhang the coil periphery and are folded radially inwards by successive application of pressure from rollers 20, 21. Edges 17 may enclose end members 18 with resilients coatings 19. Rollers 6, 7 carry spikes 9 and grooves to form a series of perforated conical projections 10 in the web. |
