<p>The catalyst is prepd. from an alkali metal pyrrolidonate (I), a quat. ammonium salt (II) and CO2 in molar ratio 1:0.1-2:0.1-0.5 (1:0.2-1.5:0.1-0.5), esp. 1:1:0.3. Pref. (II) is added to carbonated (I), in 2-pyrrolidone (IV) as solvent. In partic., an alkali metal hydroxide (KOH) is added to an excess of (IV), giving a salt of (I) and water in (IV). The soln. is dried to 0.1-0.2 wt.% water, and CO2 is added at 20-50 degrees C (25-35 degrees C), followed by addn. of (II). Co2 may be partly replaced by SO2. (II) have formula R4N+X- or R1R2R3R4N+X- (where R, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are (ar)alkyl or alkaryl gps., esp. 1-6C (1-3C)alkyl, more esp. CH3, and X- is a halide or carboxylate anion). (II) may be prepd. in situ by adding an alkyl halide to a soln. of a trialkylamine in (IV), at 10-50 degrees C; the soln. obtd. is added to a soln. of a carboxylated (I) in (IV). Tetramethylammonium chloride is claimed as (II).</p> |
