1418817 Polymerizing chloroprene PETROTEX CHEMICAL CORP 9 Nov 1973 [9 Nov 1972] 52116/73 Heading C3P High solid latices of polychloroprene are obtained by polymerizing in aqueous emulsion part only of a monomer feed in the presence of (a) 0À3-4 p.b.w. of a salt of a formaldehyde condensate of naphthalene sulphonic acid and salts of (b) 0À15-1 p.b.w. of a fatty acid or polymerized unsaturated fatty acid and (c) 1À4-4 p.b.w. of rosin or modified or polymerized rosin, the cations of such salts being alkali metal or ammonia and such p.b.w. being based on the above part of the monomer as 100, polymerizing until the viscosity of the mixture reaches a peak and at least begins to decline then adding the remaining monomer and polymerizing to completion. The part of the monomer added to begin may be 40-95% of the whole.
