Vice for machine tool - has hydraulic cylinder and vice actuated by pneumatic piston and tightened by second pneumatic cylinder

The vice is fitted to a machine tool for holding parts during machining and comprises a pneumatic piston (17) inside a cylinder (9). The rear of this is filled with oil (16) and forms one side of a second piston (19). When compressed air is introduced behind the first piston, the oil is forced rearwards to move the second piston and close the vice. A third piston (7), pneumatically operated, is then moved rearwards by compressed air. This is fitted with a rod (8) protruding through into the oil filled cylinder. As it moves rearwards (12, 13,14), this rod intensifies the oil pressure and tightens the vice grip.
