<p>A galvanic bath for electrodeposition of bright Zn or Cd, comprises an aq. soln. of Zn++ or Cd++ and, dissolved in the bath, a brightener of formula (I) (where R1 and R2 are each H or a compatible subst. for a Zn bath; R3 is an opt. substd. alkylene gp.; R4 is alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl, phenoxy, benzyl, naphthyl, alkaryl, alkenaryl, buryl or alkenfuryl opt. substd. by compatible substs.; X is halogen, H or nothing and N represents a tert-amino heterocyclic ring). Bright, ductile, uniform deposits of Zn or Cd are obtd. (I) is pref. added in an amt. of 0.01-1.0 g/l to bath, esp. 0.1-2 g/l. A brightener assistant may also be present in an amt. of 0.1-10 g/l e.g. PVA, polyethyleneimine opt. sulphoxylated or reacted with epichlorohydrin, and nonionic wetting agents derived from ethylene oxide. Suitable brighteners include N-(3-cinnamoyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl) isoquinolium chloride.</p> |
