alpha-Chlorocarboxylic acids are of formula (I): in which Y is 1-6C alkyl, phenyl, benzyl or 7-11C phenylalkyl, which may carry as substit. on the phenyl nucleus a 1-3C alkyl, a 1-3C alkoxy, or a halogen atom; R1 is 1-4C alkylene or a valency bond, L is 1-3C alkyl and Z is -COOH or a gp. which can be converted into a COOH gp. (I) have a notable hypolipidaemic and hypoglycemic activity and are useful for treated hyperlipemia, diabetes, etc.
