The cigarette display unit comprises a base whose lower surface rests on a flat horizontal support, and a body with vertical holes running from one end to the other. A cigarette slides in each hole and rests on a support fixed to the base, and an external skirt encloses and is fixed to the body. The body moves up and down in guides in relation to the base, and is spring-loaded upwards into the rest position. The skirt (18) extends downwards round the base (4), and when the body is in the rest position the cigarettes remain below its top surface. The guide can be a screw engaging (9) in a tapped hole (6) in the base while its shank fits in an axial bore in the body.
