A piled fabric is produced by forming a layer of cut pile fibres from different coloured fibres according to a desired pattern and applying parallel adhesive coated support yarns to the layer of fibres so that a row of pile fibres lying side by side extends transversely between two adjacent support yarns, the separation of the support yarns being equal to twice the desired height of the pile of the finished fabric the layer of fibres in the divided into bands whose length corresponds to the width of the finished fabris and these bands are then applied to an adhesive coated backing web. The method is cheap and simple and allows production of a carpet using a large number of different coloured pile fibres. |
