Powerful passive electrooptical display cell - has rustless steel frame with sintered glass frit separating glass plates

A passive electro-optical display cell consists of two glass plates with conductive symbols between which an active component (electrophoretic) is sealed. A cross strut frame which keeps the plates at the proper spacing is made of hot oxidising steel which is bonded to both plates by a glass frit layer. This makes it possible to design more powerful display cells with greater distances of the glass plates. Glass frit without the new strut frame would expand too much during the heating which is required for their sintering operation. Useful e.g. in watch making.
