A system for feeding particulate carbonaceous material into a pyrolysis reactor comprises an arcuate feed tube passing through the reactor wall and with its outer end connected to a supply of material suspended in carrier gas, the tube being closely slidable in an arcuate support sleeve extending outwardly from the wall about an opening in it. The tube is prevented from rotating relative to the reactor internal walls and the sleeve controls tube extension into the reactor. An arcuate cooling jacket is pref. insertable with the tube into the sleeve to keep the material below a set temp.
