The ship borne unloading equipment for bulk materials comprises a traveling gantry (15) on fore and aft rails straddling the cargo hatches (14) with a centreline mounting and operating platform (18) for a conveyor assembly (22) This assembly can be rotated horizontally and the conveyor itself (bucket-or-belt-type) can be raised/lowered and can operate either side of the gantry. A counterweight (26) pref. variable facilitates operation. From the top of the conveyor, material is discharged onto a transverse belt system inside the (box-girder construction) gantry. This system is extendable beyond the deckedge on either side and can run either way. Closures cover the deckedge openings when the belting is retracted. The centreline conveyer system (22) may be fitted with devices for breaking-up the bullk material.
