Continuous casting wide steel slabs - where narrow mould walls can be moved and their angle varied to provide mould taper

The mould is mounted in a frame located on an oscillating frame. On this frame (2) are two devices, one for each narrow wall; each consists of a guide plate fitted with two guide bars for a back-up plate moved in and out between the two long walls of the slab mould. The bottom end of the back-up plate is fitted with a pivot for a swivel plate on which a narrow mould wall is mounted; bolts are used to alter the angle of the swivel plate and therefore the taper of the narrow mould wall; the guide bars are then clamped so the swivel plate is held in the desired position. Used for mfr. of slabs of >2 metres and thickness 200 mm, where the device permits rapid adjustment of the narrow mould walls which determine the width of the slab.
